Testimonials

I have elk hunted for forty something years in three states with five outfitters, and have never had the success and pleasure that I have enjoyed with Cross Mountain Ranch, especially at Fish Creek Lodge managed by Doyle Worbington. The quality and number of animals is greater than I have found elsewhere. Hunter success is almost 100% and the quality of guides is superb. The accommodations and food is better than great. One hunter from New York said last year, “I come back just for the food.” The handling of the meat is especially professional. Nothing is left to chance when it comes to assuring a successful, comfortable and enjoyable experience.

I’ve started and stopped this email many times because I couldn’t get the wording right to explain how grateful I am for the unforgettable hunt I had with J & D this fall. Everybody in your crew was amazing. Johnny bent over backwards to keep our bellies full and the mood light in camp. He is genuinely an awesome person. Steve was unbelievably on top of the game. His homework was done long before I arrived. He put me on a 170” buck within 15 mins of the hunt starting! Coming from the consumer side of the equation, it means a lot to know your outfitter and his guides are in the woods long before the shooting starts. That’s why I will be back in camp next year with “pops” on the trigger also!

I am sure you get a lot of these letters complimenting you on the outstanding service and amazing experience provided by the entire crew in Montrose…..aka Canyon Rim Lodge. I would like to add to your stack as this trip was all I could have wished for and more! As such, I would like to thank you for two things: The first for making this the ‘Hunting trip of a Lifetime’ that I always billed it as. I hope you realize what a special operation you have and what it means to those that don’t get to do this but once. You put a 110 % into making the actual hunt successful but in my opinion put even more into the little things that make the entire adventure complete. You said your goal was for us to be happy come Sunday. Well…we all were MORE than happy come Friday – Thank you! And secondly for bringing me back to my roots. It’s been years since I’ve made time to get back to WA in Oct to chase those whitetail. I miss those father-son outings where not much has to be said for the impression to be made. Everything just feels right. In closing, I can honestly say that this met and exceeded my already lofty expectations. Thank you for making this all it could be and more! Though I’m not sure I can bill it as a ‘once’ in a lifetime experience anymore since I have a feeling we’ll all be coming back again in a few years!!!

Thanks again for an amazing week at Fish Creek Lodge. Hunting was beyond my wildest dreams. I can’t say enough about your staff, accommodations and the ranch. It was truly a hunt-of-a-lifetime experience and I can promise you I will be back. The food was incredible, the guides were just plain fun and the lodge is awesome. You really run a first-class operation. I have the opportunity to do some great hunts for TV and for writing for magazines, but I can say in all honesty, no B.S. that this was the best operation I have experienced on any continent. I just got back from an elk hunt in Colorado with J & D Outfitters and Cross Mountain. You need to check these guys out. As legit as it gets. Hands down, one of the best ran outfits I have been at and if you are looking to get into some bulls, then this is the place!

Doyle Worbington and all of his guides gave me and my 14 year old son a hunt of a lifetime. From the time of booking the hunt until the time we landed in Colorado Doyle was very helpful. This was our first guided hunt. We hunted the Cripple Creek ranch second season. Hunting conditions were difficult very hot and dry for this time of the year, however with the hard work of the guides and expertise all 4 hunters in our camp bagged out. The real and main fact of my testimonial is that this was a dream come true for me and my son. My son killed a 6 x 7 bull and myself a 6 x 5. Does it get any better? None of this could have been possible if it wasn’t for Doyle and his crew. They encourage the family hunting. They gave my son not only an experience and education, but a lifelong dream that he will have together with his father. “Priceless” thanks again.

This was my fourth great hunt with Doyle and every year I say it can’t get any better but every year it does. Even with 35 mph winds for 3 days straight. 5 hunters took 5 elk & 5 deer and every one was trophy quality. We took 3 5 x 6’s, 1 5 x 5, and a 6 x 7 elk and the deer were all nice 4 x 4’s and 5 x 5’s it was just fantastic. My buddy Steve took a nice 5 x 6 the last hour of the hunt. The guides won’t quit until everyone’s tagged out. I would like to take this time to again thank everyone at J & D Outfitters including (Pinky) for another dream season come true. Thanks

My son and I hunted the 4th season in Unit 64 with J&D Outfitters. There were 4 hunters in camp at their Montrose location. We all had shooting opportunities at bull elk. My son’s 6×6 and my 6×5 were the highlight of the trip. The entire organization goes the extra mile to make you feel comfortable. The guides, Doyle and Bryant, know the land like the back of their hands and are constantly working to get bull elk in front of you. The food was hearty, home cooked and plentiful. Accommodations were a real nice central lodge and detached 2 person cabins with their own hot water and shower. Transfers to and from the airport right on schedule. There were no surprises; you got what you contracted for and then some. In addition to elk, the land has significant mule deer. None of us had drawn a tag, but we saw several bucks approaching 28-30 inch spreads. I have been on 14 other guided hunts and this experience ranks right up there in the top category. I plan to return hopefully for a combination elk and mule deer hunt.
